These original mixed-media pieces are a combination of painting and drawing. They begin with a drawing using sketching materials and various mark-making tools layered over a thick coating of gesso, which breaks up the space into distinct areas of line, shape and texture. From these areas, the composition is developed and thin washes of acrylic paint are applied and layered. Once the basic composition is in place, detail is added, color is enhanced, and the painting is finished off with oil pastel and colored pencil.
