EDNA GROTJAHN EARLY

JEWELRY

Deja Designs

I have always been eclectic with my life in many ways; it runs over into my jewelry designs. I thoroughly enjoy the designing process on all levels. When working with metals, especially sterling silver, fine silver or argentium, the creative process intrigues me: heating, soldering, fusing, texturizing, polishing, and then seeing the finished product brings me great satisfaction.

When I add precious stones, beads, glass, pearls and Swarovski crystals to the metals; the sparkle, tones, color, texture and variety add interest to my creations. Crazy or not the stones “talk to me”. I just need to listen and magic happens. More importantly are the meanings behind the stones I prefer to use and their healing nature.

I will add a wide variety of other metals to the mix as I love diversity on all levels. I try to push the envelope so to speak. Sometimes the ideas fail, I keep trying to find a different, unique way to create art; I enjoy pushing myself.

Being a tactile person I studied weaving, pottery, jewelry, glass blowing and drawing/painting. After college and some graduate credits, I became a glass blower and set up my own glass blowing studio on the country home where I live. Raising a family changed that focus to jewelry, which continues to bring me great challenges, satisfaction and joy.
